Interviewer: Hello Cody, first and foremost, thank you very much for taking time out of your very busy schedule to have a sit down interview with me.
Cody: It is my pleasure!
Interviewer: To begin, let’s talk about what has helped developed you into the person you are today. In other words, who is the person that you really admire and would like to follow?
Cody: Personally, I admire my older sister, Whitney. She has the strongest work ethic that I have ever witnessed. She has held a job while being a full-time student ever since she turned 16 years old. Today, she now holds a master’s degree as a physician’s assistant from Butler University and is working to further her education at The University of Kentucky. She has always pushed and motivated me to do better in my schooling. I have followed her my whole life growing, but as we grow older and we begin to drift apart due to our separate lives, I must find another leader to follow. Professionally, I would like to follow Bonnie Pribush. Her leadership qualities and knowledge are supreme, and her teaching techniques are engaging and creative. I hope that one day I can house as much knowledge as she does.
Interviewer: You met Bonnie Pribush through Franklin College, correct?
Cody: That is correct. I majored in Psychology with minors in Theatre and Leadership at Franklin College. I met her through the leadership department during my second year at Franklin College.
Interviewer: Why did you decide to go to college? Did you ever consider another route in life?
Cody: I never really decided to attend college. It was never a decision for me; it was something that I believe I had to do without questioning it. I had this mindset because of my sister. She had always done well in her academics and this pushed me to do well too. After attending college, I can now state that I attended college because I wanted to gain more education and create a better future for my family.
Interviewer: Do you have a clear vision of what you would like to your future to be like? What are some things you have on your bucket list?
Cody: I do not have a clear vision of my future; however, my bucket list consists of many random events, goals, and dreams. I would like to skydive sometime before I die, and hopefully that will not be the death of me. My biggest dream is to see Hamlet performed at Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre in London. It is my favorite work of Shakespeare, and seeing it in the theatre that Shakespeare created would be a wonderful privilege. Living overseas, most likely in a European country is something else I would like to do sometime in my life. I would like to move overseas with an international company where I can work in management, human resourcing, consulting work, or some type of leadership position.
Interviewer: How do you define leadership?
Cody: When I say “leadership position” that means I would like to lead, motivate, and educate followers and other leaders. I do not believe leadership is limited to leading followers to complete a common goal. I believe leadership is educating and guiding others to be leaders. Leaders need to educate other leaders as well. In life, no one should ever be finished learning because you can never know everything, and everyone has some knowledge to share. Therefore, leaders should be open to learning and educating other leaders and followers. I would like to share and receive knowledge of leadership so that I can develop others to be great leaders.
Interviewer: That sounds like wonderful. Well, it looks like your time is up here. I would like to thank you again for coming.
